Denture Treatment Plan

3.
Treatment Plan

When you’re ready to take the next step, we design your personalised treatment plan. Most people require four appointments over the course of a month. Plan for one appointment a week though if you have custom requirements, it may take a little longer and we will walk you through the process so you know exactly what will happen at each appointment.

First Denture Treatment

4.
First Treatment Appointment

We will assess your existing tooth and bone structure. We’ll also take impressions from which we create a mould of your mouth structure. This is how we can ensure the best fit for your flexible denture.

Second Denture Treatment

5.
Second Treatment Appointment

In your next treatment, we will take your bite registration, which clinically records your bite, using bite blocks so we can ensure your flexible denture fits well. In this appointment, you will also get to select the shape and colour of your teeth.

Try-In Appointment

6.
Try-In Appointment

Your third visit to our denture studio will be a ‘try-in’ where we insert a wax model of your flexible denture, with all teeth in place, so you can see what it will look like. You can request any changes you like to ensure we get the perfect fit and a natural-looking smile you love.

Final Denture Appointment

Your fourth and final appointment is the big day! You’ll get your new flexible dentures fitted, and you’ll walk out of here knowing you can smile and eat with ease and comfort. We’ll also advise you on how to best care for your dentures, so they last as long as possible.

What are Flexible Dentures

What are flexible dentures?

Flexible dentures are a removable replacement for any missing teeth. They help fill in the gap of your smile if you’ve had any tooth extractions or an accident that has knocked out one or more of your teeth.

However, contrary to the name, flexible dentures aren’t flexible in the sense that they are bendable; rather, they are less rigid structures when compared to other materials used for dentures.

By nature, they are not soft, bendable or weaker than other types of dentures. However, many people find flexible dentures more comfortable as they adapt to the constant movement of your mouth when compared to chrome dentures, for instance.

If you’re not sure we’ll discuss the best option for you during your initial appointment with us.

Aftercare & Troubleshooting Flexible Denture Problems

Why get flexible dentures?

If you’re missing a few teeth and want to restore your smile, flexible dentures are a great solution for you. They are designed to fill in unsightly gaps with replaceable, natural-looking teeth.

More importantly, perhaps, flexible dentures offer more stability and comfort. They adapt to the changing position of your jaw while talking, chewing or yawning. They also seamlessly adjust to all the micro-movements of your tongue, and unlike rigid dentures, there is less risk they compromise your facial structure.

You can easily restore your confidence with Tweed Coast Denture Studio by your side!

Why get Flexible Dentures

Are flexible dentures suitable for everyone?

Flexible dentures are designed to replace up to six missing teeth. Therefore, they are not suitable for everyone.

In particular, flexible dentures are not compatible for people with a history of periodontal disease or those who are missing all their teeth and need a set of full dentures.

We also do not advise removable flexible dentures for anyone who experiences seizures, as they can become a choking hazard.

Is it easy to adjust to flexible dentures?

It will take some time to adjust to the feeling and function of any type of denture. However, flexible dentures can be slightly easier to adjust to — especially when compared with traditional materials like acrylic and chrome.

This is because flexible dentures have a softer base and don’t feel as intrusive when you have them on. The flexible base can also feel more adaptive to the constantly changing position of your jaw while talking or eating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Flexible dentures aren’t better or worse than other types of dentures. The type of denture required is always based on the individual – that is why our service is 100% personalised. Flexible dentures are simply a better option for some people who are only missing a small number of teeth (especially front teeth) and who have decent oral health.

The best type of dentures for your needs will depend on your situation. In your initial consultation, we will discuss in detail the best type of denture for your situation and budget.

Dentures last a long time with proper care and regular checks with your dental prosthetist. On average, you can expect your flexible dentures to last up to a decade. However, they will need to be relined every couple of years so you can maintain a good fit.

If you implement good oral hygiene practices and pay special attention to the teeth next to your denture, they will not experience any damage from the flexible denture.

However, if you allow excessive plaque build-up on the teeth next to your denture, this can lead to tooth decay or gum disease. Both of these concerns can be easily avoided with regular flossing and brushing, so make sure you take diligent care of your teeth!

Yes, more teeth can be added to a flexible denture at any time. At Tweed Coast Denture Studio, we offer a same-day denture addition service that covers most people’s needs. If your situation is more complex, we will let you know in advance if we need a little more time to perfect your new tooth addition.
