Initial Denture Appointment

1.
Initial Appointment

If you’re considering getting a set of full dentures, get in touch for your initial appointment. Our clinic is a relaxed and calm environment designed to help you feel at ease as we start designing your new set of complete dentures.

Design Your Smile

2.
Design Your Smile

Getting a new set of full dentures is a personal journey. We encourage you to bring photos of yourself with your natural teeth so we can design your new smile to match. You can also explore our numerous material options/samples for an idea of different styles of dentures and to choose what suits you best.

Denture Treatment Plan

3.
Treatment Plan

When you’re ready to take the next step, we design your personalised treatment plan. Most people require four appointments over the course of a month. Plan for one appointment a week though if you have custom requirements, it may take a little longer and we will walk you through the process so you know exactly what will happen at each appointment.

First Denture Treatment

4.
First Treatment Appointment

If you have existing teeth, we may need to arrange for tooth removal in your first treatment. Our prosthetist, Karl Eisermann, will determine if you will need your full denture immediately after extraction (immediate denture) or after the gum tissue has had a chance to repair and heal.

Second Denture Treatment

5.
Second Treatment Appointment

In your next treatment, we will take your bite registration, which clinically records your bite, using bite blocks so we can ensure your full denture fits well. In this appointment, you will also get to select the shape and colour of your teeth.

Try-In Appointment

6.
Try-In Appointment

Your third visit to our full denture studio will be a ‘try-in’ where we insert a wax model of your denture, with all teeth in place, so you can see what the dentures will look like. You can request any changes you like to ensure we get the perfect fit and a natural-looking smile you love.

Final Denture Appointment

7.
The Big Day

Your fourth and final appointment is the big day! You’ll get your new denture fitted, and you’ll walk out of here knowing you can smile and eat with ease and comfort. We’ll also advise you on how to best care for your new set of full dentures, so they last you as long as possible.

What are Full Dentures?

What are full dentures?

Full dentures are prosthetic devices that are constructed to replace all missing teeth and give the appearance of a full set of teeth. They consist of replacement teeth (or false teeth) that are designed and placed into an acrylic or chrome base. The base is designed to look like your gums.

Conventional dentures are removable, but we can also design full dentures that are held in place by implant retention (such as, implant retained overdentures). We’ll discuss the best option for you during your initial appointment with us.

What is a full upper denture?

A full upper denture consists of artificial teeth, gums, and either an acrylic or metal plate that covers the roof of your mouth to create suction, so that it stays in place. Upper dentures can also be retained with implants so that they stay in place with less bulk and palatal coverage. If you have no upper teeth, a full upper denture is a safe and cost-effective way to keep your smile intact.

What is a full lower denture?

A full lower denture is shaped like a horseshoe and is designed to rest securely on your gum and jawbone structure. Since a lower denture rests in place, it does not feature a plate that would get in the way of your tongue. Rather, our revolutionary lower full dentures use natural landmarks to create stability or a skin-safe adhesive can help the denture stay in place. Lower full dentures can also be retained with implants to create extra stability.

Aftercare & Troubleshooting Full Denture Problems

How do full dentures stay in place?

There are several ways your dentures stay in place. We design full dentures so that there’s a very close (and comfortable) fit along the gum and jawbone. The layer of saliva between your gums and your full dentures is often enough to keep it in place.

With the full upper denture using natural suction (and where possible for a full lower denture) we use a technique called ‘suction effective mandibular complete denture – SEMCD’, a proven and effective clinical process that allows the denture to stay in place using natural suction.

But if you’re after more stability, we can also discuss the option of an implant-retained denture.

Looking After Your Dentures

Looking after your complete dentures

It can be a bit of an adjustment after you get your dentures, especially when it comes to what you can eat or drink. Here are some tips to help you look after your dentures properly:

In your final appointment with us, we’ll also provide you with all the information you require to care for your dentures and ensure they last as long as possible.

How long until my full dentures are made?

Our dentures are made from the best materials available, so they take time to cook and set properly. It will take around 3 or 4 weeks for completion.

If you’re looking for same-day dentures, unfortunately, we’re not the best clinic for you. Same-day full dentures are often made from lower-quality materials and are usually not cooked enough. Not only are they more brittle, but they can also be uncomfortable if the fitting was rushed which can have a lasting effect on your oral health.

Instead, we take a different approach that centres around delivering a quality and comfortable product that truly makes our clients smile for more reasons than one! We never cut corners on the quality of materials, and our denture design process is clinically proven.

When Will My Full Dentures Be Made?
Eating and Speaking with Full Dentures

Is it easy to speak and eat with full dentures?

A new set of false teeth certainly takes some getting used to. However, with a little bit of dedicated practice, you can easily get back to speaking and eating comfortably.

When eating, things will feel a little strange as you may not be able to sense the temperature of food or taste different flavours as you once did. You’ll also benefit from chewing food evenly on both sides and cutting it into smaller bite-sized chunks as you adjust.

Likewise, when it comes to speaking, it can often feel like you’ve got a mouth full of teeth. We recommend trying out a few tongue twisters to practice the pronunciation of difficult sounds like “f” and “s”. You can also practice talking in front of a mirror, paying attention to how your mouth moves.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are missing (or need to replace) all of your natural teeth, full dentures are the best option for you. However, if you are only missing a few natural teeth, partial dentures will be a more appropriate solution. Not only are partial dentures more cost-effective, but they also ensure you don’t need to get your remaining healthy teeth removed just to fit in a complete set of false teeth.

Your full denture will stay in place by using a combination of your facial muscles and the suction between your denture and the saliva on your mouth tissue. The degree of natural suction changes from person to person as it depends on your unique oral anatomy. But, with a well-made denture that’s fitted perfectly to your mouth shape, you shouldn’t feel like it’s loose or moving around your mouth at all.
